Puttu and Kadala Curry
Puttu
1. Roasted Rice Powder : 2 cups
(pachari podi)
2. Grated coconut : 1 cup
3. Salt : Required quantity
4. Warm water : Required quantity
Cooking method:
Take a wide utensil and put rice powder,required salt and grated coconut to the utensil and mix it slowly with hand by adding warm water . Mix untill all rice powder become wet. Add enough water to get a moist crumbly mixture, and not a wet, sticky one. In a puttu kutti, or a puttu steamer (a cylindrical appliance), first stuff a handful of the puttu podi. Close and steam for 6 mins. Serve hot with kadala (gram) curry.
Kadala Curry
1. Black Channa - 3/4 cup
2 Big Onion - 3 nos.
3.Tomatoes - 2 medium sized chopped roughly
4. Ginger - 1 small piece2 Big Onion - 3 nos.

5. Garlic - 4 or 5 cloves
6. Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
7. Coriander powder - 1.5 tsp
8. Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
9. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
10. Chicken masala (to taste more) - 1 tsp
11. Any vegetable oil - 3 tsp
12. Salt - Required quantity
13. Curry leaves - Few
Cooking method
Soak black channa overnight and pressure cook for 2 -3 whistles or until soft.Dont drain water, set aside.In a pressure cooker heat oil add cutting pieces of onions,ginger,garlic and few salt and fry till it becomes browny. Then add tomatoes and fry again. Then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and garam masala powders and stir it well. Then add cooked chana and salt to the cooker and cook untill 3 - 4 whistles may come. After cooling . add chicken masala and curry leaves and cook for few seconds. Turn of the gas
Kerala kadala curry is ready to serve with Puttu
