Kadala Curry Using Coconut
Today we will learn how to make Kerala Kadala curry.
Ingredients
For cooking in pressure cooker
1. Kadala (put in water for 8 hrs) : 1 cup
2. Big onion : 1 big no. (Finely chopped)
3. Ginger : 1 small piece
4. Garlic : 4 cloves
5. Powders - Red chilly powder : 1/2 teaspoon
For frying
5. Powders - Red chilly powder : 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander powder : 1 teaspoon
garam masala : 1/2 teaspoon
Turmeric powder : 1/4 teaspoon
5. Water : 1 cupFor frying
6. Coconut (grated) : 1 cup
7. Red chilly powder : 11/2 teaspoon
8. Coriander powder : 2 teaspoon
9. garam masala : 1 1/2 teaspoon
10. Turmeric powder : 1/2 teaspoon
11. Water : 11/2 cup

12. Coconut oil : 11/2 spoon
11. Water : 11/2 cup

13. Mustard : 1 spoon
14. curry leaves : few
15. Salt : requires quantity
16. Red chilly: 2 nos.
Preparation:
Clean kadala.
Cut onion into small pieces. Cut ginger, garlic into small pieces. Take a pressure cooker.
Add all the above ingredients and 1 cup of water and few salt and 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 spoon chilly powder, 1/2 spoon gar am masala into it and cook for 4 to 5 whistle may come.
Take a pan fry grated coconut and few curry leaves.
When it becomes half brown add all masalas given in the ingredients for frying and fry again till it becomes brown in colour.
Turn off the gas and put these ingredients into a mixie jar and grind it well as a paste by adding 1/2 cup of water. Add water slowly if neccessary.
Add the grinded mix into the cooked kadala and boil it for few seconds , add salt if needed and turn off the gas Then take the same pan which is used for frying coconut. Heat coconut oil then add mustard, red chilly and curry leaves. Add these into the curry and mix it well.
